Space Pirates MkIII by Del-Borovic Space Pirates MkIII by Del-Borovic
Commission for :iconkemonoart: of his merry band of space pirate terrorists :D

This is the third picture so far of this dynamic trio~ Spent a while on this one.. and I always like painting these guys, because there's always enough time between them that I think I improve every time I paint them. So this is the best I think so far! I've only posted this other one: [link]

Also, for your amusement, here's a gif of the entire piece's progress in steps: [link]

Everyone loves a Space Pirate.

I watched the gif and couldn't believe the fact that took so many layers. Every time I thought the next one was sure to be the finished piece, there was more--more lineart, more detail, more highlights. Very easy to see why your commission prices are more than reasonable. Now how long did it take? XD The level of detail you put into the hair is always so exquisite.

I notice you seem to be upping the black fields and contrast in your pieces as of late. (It's not all that recent now, I suppose, but still noticeable.)</random friendly observation>

Hahahaha, yeah, honestly I was surprised too, looking back on it. Like "OOohh. I totally forgot that's how it looked when I started..." but yeah, these things take a while! This piece in particular I worked on for 4 days straight- not really working on any other pieces.. and I'd say it probably took around 30 hours most likely. I don't really sit and count hours but, I usually am working on art 8-12 hours a day, unless I take the day off. Hehe, but thank you! Also because I raised my prices like I did, it gives me the ability to work on the pieces even longer and put more work into them- since, unlike before, I'm not losing money by working on them for a few hours extra.

And yep.. I think I've just been getting more gutsy with the contrast and lighting in my pieces! I've always loved very dramatic lighting, I think I'm just a little less scared of it now ;3 Though I do have to watch for making pictures TOO dark. I'm sure on some people's monitors they might black out in some places entirely.. hmm~
